BOSCOV’S AND CRADLES TO CRAYONS’ “HOLIDAY ANGEL TREES” DRIVE TO AID AREA CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY EXTENDED TO END OF YEAR

Calling its shoppers’ response to the “Holiday Angel Trees” drive “overwhelming and inspiring,” Boscov's department tores in four southeastern Pennsylvania communities – including its store in Granite Run Mall, 1067 W. Baltimore Pike – have extended to the end of the year the effort to provide everyday necessities to local children living in poverty. Boscov’s is partnering in the drive with Cradles to Crayons, a local nonprofit that addresses year-round the poverty faced by one in five children in the Greater Philadelphia region.

“Holiday Angel Trees,” located in the children’s departments of the stores, are trimmed with individualized mitten-shaped cards that identify an item of clothing and other winter wear, such as a coat, pants, warm shirt, glove or hat, needed by an area low-income and/or homeless child. Boscov’s shoppers will be able to select recipients by age and gender.

“The response by our shoppers to the ‘Holiday Angel Trees’ drive,” said Jacqueline Paquet, Boscov’s Regional PR manager, “has been overwhelming and inspiring. The alarming increase in the number of families living in poverty throughout the region, including in this community,” she said, “cannot be ignored, and we are proud to be partnering with Cradles to Crayons in helping to make so many disadvantaged youngsters’ holiday wishes come true.”

Boscov’s shoppers can purchase the items listed on the ornament, which will then be gathered by courtesy desk staff and provided to Cradles to Crayons, from which local social service agencies, including homeless and domestic violence shelters, schools, and foster homes, will distribute them to the children in their care.
