Ask around, and you're sure to find one of the most defining characteristics about Media is the town's sense and understanding of community. There's no shortage of fundraisers and festivals. The solidarity continues throughout the year.

That's the mission of "Celebrate Media," to be held Wednesday, Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov. 11. During the three night event, 12 of Media's non-profit organizations will join forces. The entertainment showcase of art, music and performance will be held at the Media Theatre.

The schedule is as follows:

Wed., Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. - CoEXISTdance Company, an innovative modern dance collective

Thurs., Nov. 10 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. - Upper Darby Sousa Band, a patriotic concert directed by Thomas J. Hoey

Fri., Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. - Blackthorn, an Irish rock band that has played the Philly region for more than 20 years. The McHugh School of Irish Dance will perform before the show and during intermission.

"Celebrate Media" is the brainchild of Media Borough Council. They wanted to create an event that "allows (the non-profits) to pool resources, efforts and volunteers to produce a series that appeals to well-diversified audiences," says Councilwoman and Event Chair Dawn Roe.

The event is being organized by the Celebrate Media Committee, which has partnered with the Media Theatre. The committee is made up of volunteers from the following non-profit groups: Media Arts Council, Media Business Authority, America's First Fair Trade Town, Recreation Board, Media Fire Company, Media-Upper Providence Free Library, Media Farmer's Market, Media Fellowship House, Media Youth Center, N.A.A.C.P., Media Historical Society, and Transition Town Media. 

Roe says the intention of the event is to acknowledge Media's non-profits, while providing entertainment for everyone.

"It's a great chance to celebrate, reward, and recognize the amazing work of our non-profits in Media. Our committee members and their organizations are working every single day to make our community a better, more beautiful, and more enjoyable place," says Roe. "We've already decided we'd like to continue as a group after the November events. We hope that residents and visitors will celebrate with us, as we bring such a diverse and dynamic choice of programs to town for their enjoyment."
