Local Reggae band "Philly Gumbo" played a free outdoor show to a massive crowd that gathered at State and Jackson streets for New Year's Eve Dec. 31, 2011.
Riddle Hospital provided souvenir bells. Hundreds cheered, kissed and danced as the ball dropped at midnight, followed by the traditional singing of Auld Lang Syne.

This was a truly wonderful event. We found out about it Saturday morning, and showed up at 11:25pm. Though we had no hats or noisemakers, the electricity of the crowd carried us through. Philly Gumbo provided great music, and the added delight of a couple getting married made the night. Kudos to Media for providing a safe and entertaining environment to ring in 2012. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
