No one was injured in a house fire on the 100 block of Carlton Place in Upper Providence Township Monday morning.

Fire Marshall Allan Mancill said the fire was ruled accidential and it started in a vehicle that was parked in a carport connected to the two-story, single family home.

The fire call was reported around 10:30 a.m. and the fire was placed under control, after three alarms, just after noon.

The female homeowner had been having car trouble over the weekend and could not start her car, Mancill said, but she attempted to start it again Monday morning.

"She heard a pop and smoke started coming from under the hood of the car," Mancill said.

He said the woman ran to a neighbor, Jackie Chambers, across the street for assistance and when he returned to the house and opened the hood, smoke continued to pour from the car.

Chambers attempted to start the 2001 Buick Lesabre to move it from under the carport and also tried to push the car, but was unsuccessful, Mancill said.

Smoke and flames were seen coming from the car and 911 was called.

The carport, which appeared to be connected to an attached garage, was destroyed by fire and the flames eventually spread through the entire house.

No one was injured and no pets lived at the residence. The house appeared to be completely destroyed.

Providence Road or Route 252, in the area of the Upper Providence Township building, was closed for about two and half hours.

Jim Broach, the homeowner's son-in-law, said his mother-in-law had been having car trouble and when she tried to start the car it went up in flames.

Broach's wife got the call about the fire and Broach, who lives in Wallingford, arrived at the scene shortly later.

Rose Tree Fire Co. Chief Bob Brown was the chief in charge of the scene and Upper Providence Police Officer Fred Mason was first on the scene.

Rose Tree, Media, Newtown Square and Broomall fire companys all responded to the first alarm of the fire. Lima, Springfield, Brookhaven and South Media responded to the second alarm and Middletown Fire Company responded to the third alarm. Riddle Memorial EMS also responded to the scene.

Green Ridge, Yeadon and Boothwynn fire companys covered the areas of those responding companys during the fire.
