Delaware County to Plan for Aging Services Entity

Delaware County Council also acknowledged Asian businessmen, essay contest winners at its weekly meeting.

The approved a $135,000 professional services contract with LarsonAllen LLP to develop a plan for the establishment of a "non-profit collaborative aging service entity" in Southeastern Pennsylvania at its meeting Tuesday.

The purpose of establishing such an entity is to "better serve the elderly and their caregivers in the future," said Louis G. Colbert, director of the County Office of Services for the Aging.

Colbert said LarsonAllen, a CPA, consulting and advisor firm, was chosen for the contract, which would be funded by the state and require no matching funds, through a request for propsals process.

Also at Tuesday's council meeting, members of the newly-organized Delaware County branch of the Asian Federation of the United States, which was established in Philadelphia in 2000, were recognized.

Lauded was Mahn Suh Park, founder of the Asian Federation, which seeks to represent the diverse Asian population in the county. Park noted the cultural diversity found in Delaware County, and said that he was surprised to learn how many Asians live and work here.

Young essay contest award winners were also recognized at the meeting. The Delaware County Historical Society sponsored an essay contest in which they asked students enrolled in the "Passport to History" program to write an essay.

Twelve winners were chosen from those who entered in the contest. One of those winners was Catherine Conroy, of St. Mary Magdalen School, in Upper Providence Township. Conroy accepted her award and posed for a picture with the council.
