How Safe Are Delco's Hospitals?

A new hospital safety score ranks how safe area hospitals are for patients.

Two of Delaware County's prominent hospitals, Riddle Memorial and Delaware County Memorial, received a “B” rating in a recent hospital safety score released by the Leapfrog Group.

According to a release on the group’s website, the safety score is meant to “represent the very basic blocks of medical care,” and includes measurements for hand washing, computerized medication control and nurse staffing levels.

“A hospital may have the best surgeons and greatest technology in the world, but unless it is preventing infections and eliminating medical and medication errors and injuries, it is not delivering on … the premise of ensuring the safety of you and your loved ones,” states a release on the group’s website.

Check the chart below to see how your area hospital scored according to the group’s standards. Click the link to see how your hospital scored.
