J.C. Penney Features Gay Couple With Child in Catalog

A conservative mom's website asks readers to tell J.C. Penney corporate offices to stay "neutral in the cultural war."

The May J.C. Penney catalog shows, "Wendi and her partner Maggie and daughters" and "Wendi, daughters Raven and Clover, and partner Maggie" under the title "Freedom of Expression."

In the picture both women are wearing wedding bands.

According to OneMillionMoms.com, J.C. Penney should remain neutral in the cultural war and has asked its readers to contact their local store managers and the corporate offices.

"Since the corporate office doesn't consider your call important, please call, or visit, your local store manager. Local managers are more likely to listen to your concerns and pass them along to the corporate office. Please be kind when you ask them to tell corporate that they should remain neutral in the cultural war. What was the purpose in stating on page eleven that Wendi and Maggie are partners?"

According to BuzzFeed.com, many readers seem to be in favor of the ad.

President Barack Obama also became the first sitting president to announce his support for same-sex marriage on Wednesday.

I stopped shopping at JCPenney after they pulled their commercials from the (original) Ellen show many years ago. They are a two faced hypocritical company.Whatever they do now is too late.

I agree - hypocritical. I would be interested to know what the motive was behind the ad besides trying to raise sales.

Poor Penneys - can't win for losing. Maybe not "too late," just "late." A change in thinking takes time

Penneys just changed top management recently. They have changed their sales policies and their advertising. The CEO Ron Johnson was successful at both Apple and Target. Only time will tell whether his new strategy of using Ellen and his Target like commericals will help turn the company around.
