Delaware County residents of all ages flooded State Street Monday with American flags and red, white, and blue attire as the annual Memorial Day Parade marched through Media underneath the blazing sun.

Penncrest High School marching band led the parade, which featured veterans from VFW Post 3460, American Legion Post No. 93, and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 67. Girl Scouts of Troop 5248 and Media Little Leaguers also found their way through the parade, as did a variety of glistening convertibles.

At the ceremony in front of Delaware County Courthouse, veteran and longtime Mayor of Media Bob McMahon addressed the crowd and introduced the guest speakers, WWII Navy WAVE veteran Gladys Martin and Iraq War veteran Col. Mark O’Hanlon.

"It’s days like today that allow us to know our fallen heroes will never be forgotten,” O’Hanlon said.

The ceremony wrapped up with a somber gun salute to fallen soldiers and the playing of “Taps.”
