Memorial Day Parade to March on Monday

Media Borough's annual Memorial Day Parade hits State Street at 10 a.m. on May 28.

The annual Media Memorial Day Parade will continue its rich tradition of war veterans, bands, and restored convertibles on Monday, May 28.

The parade will start at State and Edgmont streets, then head west down State Street to Orange Street. It will make a right onto Orange Street, another right onto Front Street, and finish in front of the Delaware County Courthouse at Veterans Square.

Bob Dimond, parade organizer and Executive Director of the Veterans Legacy Project, said the Penncrest High School Marching Band will lead the parade, starting at 10 a.m., and play a melody of songs in front of the courthouse.

The parade will consist of veterans from Media's Veterans of Foreign Wars USA (VFW) Post 3460 and American Legion Post No. 93, as well as members from community groups such as Little League teams and Girl Scouts troops, Dimond said.

Dimond said the courthouse ceremony's guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Mark O'Hanlon. Media Mayor Bob McMahon will also be speaking at the ceremony, and World War II Navy WAVE Veteran Gladys Martin will be honored.

The parade route will be closed to traffic during the day's festivities. The parade and ceremony should wrap up by about 11:30 a.m. Monday.
