Ring in Chinese New Year and More this Weekend
It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.
Time to break out your lanterns, red clothing and best nian gao recipe—Chinese New Year begins on Sunday, Feb. 10 and of course Media will celebrate with a parade. Check this event out, along with 2nd Saturday and Media's Community Blood Drive, this weekend. What are you doing this weekend?
- When: Saturday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m.
- Where: Starts at Margaret Kuo's Restaurant, 4 W. State St. in Media
- Why Go: Celebrate the "Year of the Snake" with Philadelphia's premiere "Lion Dancers" Hung Gar Kung Fu Academy as the parade, drums and music span State Street. The Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival (marking the end of winter and welcoming the spring), is the most important social and economic holiday in China, according to History.com.

- Where: throughout downtown Media
- Why Go: The featured artist is Photographer José Sevillano and featured musician is Pianist and Vocalist Reverend Chris Marsceill who will perform his New Orleans jazz piano style at 7 p.m. at Franklin Mint Credit Union.

3rd Annual Community Blood Drive
- When: Sunday, Feb. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Where: Media Borough City Government Offices, 301 N. Jackson St. in Media
- Why Go: Help save the lives of your family, friends, and neighbors. To sign up, go to www.redcrossblood.org, and enter sponsor code:0222092.
- Cost: Free
- When: Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 10, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Where: Granite Run Mall, 1067 W. Baltimore Pike in Media
- Why Go: Browse the more than 25,000 used and new condition books and take home your favorites. All proceeds benefit the Middletown Free Library.
- Cost: $1 hardcovers, $.50 paperbacks and Sunday is $5 bag day
- When: Thursday, Feb. 7, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
- Where: Middletown Free Library, 21 N. Pennell Rd, Media
- Why Go: BAYADA Hospice will hold a series of bereavement support groups for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Share experiences, express feelings, and receive support in a safe and nurturing environment.
