RTM School Board Member Resigns After 19 Years

Bill Montgomery resigned from his position on the Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors after serving 19 years.

The Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors reluctantly accepted the resignation of one of its longtime members at Thursdays meeting.

Bill Montgomery resigned from the board after serving the district and community for 19 years.

Montgomery served as board president in 1998 and 1999 and served as chairman of the Operations Committee since 2007.

Each member of the RTM school board thanked Montgomery for his many years of service, wisdom, mentoring and leadership.

Board member Bill O'Donnell said the board relied on Montgomery's knowledge often.

"Your track record is impeccable," O'Donnell said.

Board member John Hanna said Montgomery always fights for the taxpayer but always kept the students and community his priority.

"You are a champion to the taxpayers in this community," Hanna said.

Montgomery also thanked the board and the community for allowing him to serve.

He said he feels comfortable leaving at this time because he knows the school district and community are in good hands with the current board members and Superintendent James Wigo.

He asked that the board always keep their sense of humor and to keep the tax increases at zero, especially now that he'll be a "private citizen," Montgomery joked.

"It's been a pleasure and an honor to serve on this board," Montgomery said. "And I hope I've been an advocate on behalf of the students without losing sight of the taxpayers."

Probably one of the last members who had any inkling of taxpayer concerns.

Yes, he is one of the few as opposed to folks like John Hanna, and others who still thinks he is campaigning and touts protection of taxpayers as a caveat to anything he says. Stop campaigning John and let your actions speak. This board has not held the line on tax increases for over a decade, excluding the election year hiatus, only to come back this year with another increase. And those increases have greatly outpaced the cost of living. But when you spend taxpayer money liea drunken sailor, what do you expect.

Wigo needs to GO! He's no good for this school district, go back to Upper Darby! He's slowly but surely killing this school district. He's getting rid of all the good teachers and now likely forcing out all the good School Directors. He's getting rid of all of those who care about students/those paying taxes. It is sad to see Mr. Montgomery go, as he did truly make sure the taxes we put money towards is used for proper use.

Joe, couldn't agree more....he came in here and talked a good talk, but his true colors are showing. Hiring the new principal at SL, who quietly left his previous district in February...gee, wonder why??? No one leaves a principal job in the middle of the year unless forced out. The new assistant principal at Penncrest he has ties with from UD...and now he is threatening the bus drivers to sign a contract or he will hire private company to bus our kids. He needs to go!!!
