Salmonella Risk Prompts Wawa Fruit Cup Recall

Taylor Farms New Jersey products are being pulled from some area stores.

Certain fruit cups and parfaits, possibly tainted by salmonella, have been recalled from 135 Wawa stores, the convenience store chain announced Thursday.

The nine products from Taylor Farms New Jersey all include Daniella Brand mangoes or foods that might have been processed alongside those mangoes, according to the recall announcement.

The company also announced, "We want to stress that the product has been recalled voluntarily as a precaution. There have been no reported illnesses to date in relation to the products referenced in the Taylor Farms New Jersey recall."

The same mangoes prompted a Giant Food Stores recall earlier this week.

Eight of the recalled products are fruit cups with sell-by dates of Thursday, Aug. 30, or earlier:

  • 8 oz. mango
  • 9 oz. pineapple, strawberries and mango
  • 7 oz. pineapple
  • 11 oz. melon mix
  • 12 oz. large mixed fruit
  • 8 oz. watermelon
  • 7.5 oz. small mixed fruit
  • 9.7 oz. mixed fruit with kiwi

Those products have been recalled from many, but not all, area stores. Affected stores in the Greater Philadelphia Patch area are located at:

  • 1260 N. Providence Rd., Media
  • 2050 Sproul Road, Broomall
  • 33-35 Eagle Road, Havertown
  • 52 Lancaster Ave., Paoli
  • 1195 Pottstown Pike, West Chester

The ninth recalled product is a 7.5 oz. mango and granola parfait, with sell-by dates of Monday, Sept. 3, and earlier. It has been recalled from fewer stores than the other products, and none of those stores are in the Greater Philadelphia Patch area.

Anyone who has purchased any of the products in question should dispose of them immediately, the company said. More information about the recall is available at fda.gov and wawa.com.
