What type of business, store, or restaurant would you like to see at the former Zac's Hamburgers spot on State and Orange streets in Media Borough?

Zac's Media location closed in November and there is a "for lease" sign currently in the window.

The busy corner, right near the Delaware County Courthouse, is a great location with plenty of windows and ample space inside for either a restaurant or retail store.

The westend of State Street is also beginning to see new business with the 2012 openings of Desert Rose, Sassy Girl Boutique and My Three Sons Hot Dogs.

Would a clothing store work well at this location, a fine dining restaurant or a quick lunch spot or maybe a book store, coffee shop or bar?

How about a youth center? A safe place for young people to go after school and weekend evenings where they can get homework help and explore their talents with an Open Mic night. It could even be a place where they learn entrepreneurship and have responsibility for running the place and be paid to do so so they have a stake in it. Therefore giving them opportunities to learn workplace skills and build confidence and self-esteem. We need more opportunities for our youth who are not involved in school activities either due to cost, transportation issues or lack of interest and find other ways to engage them in positive activities that will keep them out of trouble or tempted by trouble; because they are unsupervised because both parents are working multiple jobs to keep their home and food on the table. As a community we need to do more to support these parents and our youth.

Don't we already have several places just like that? Media Youth Center, Library...

Something similar to the Coffee Club - maybe with a bookstore. This could incorporte Dana's idea.

I was going to say a tapas/wine bar until I read Dana's comment. I do like the idea and our youth really do need something like a Junior Achievement Facility. Only problem is that I don't think that the owners would reduce the rent for that type of tenant or want to take on that liability.

I like the tapas idea. Include paired micro beer too and I'm fully on board.

Ms. Jackson, we already have facilities for teaching our kids learning skills, self esteem, entrepreneurship, etc. Plus they're already paid for. They are our schools, churches, libraries, and homes. If they need more they could always do their homework, take extra credit courses, or do volunteer work. That's the it used to be...remember?

I wish Media had a shoe store. Who remembers The Shoe Station?!

I was thinking we could keep the glass windows, but convert the interior to a giant fireplace. It would be open to all of the anti-Obama people and anti-borough council people to go in there and light themselves on fire like a protesting Vietnamese monk. Gun control, increasing taxes on the rich to maintain the social safety net, insuring the basic human right of health care, keeping the impact on our neighborhood and park to a minimum with the 3rd street bridge, etc.; there are just so many reasons for our local conservatives to want to kill themselves in protest. Why not let us walk by and watch?

What a highly insensitive thing to suggest Mike. I am far from conservative, but am not happy with our current borough council in the least bit, they have made a mockery of Media. However, just because I have a different opinion than yours doesn't mean I should go kill myself. Such a totally inappropriate thing to post.

Lighten up gang. I’m not suggesting that anybody actually self-immolate, but the level of histrionics in relation to the President and Media Borough Council is a bit much. I’m sorry that several of you didn’t care for the sarcasm.

Please understand the economics involved in filling this vacancy on State St. In our growing community. A "Mom & Pop" shop already has difficulty competing with the large Big Box companies just outside the borough...plus the $/square foot rental costs are adding to this trouble. Add to that it's specific location and the consequent parking issues. If a well regarded 'burger spot had trouble making it just a few feet from the Court House daily customer base...what kind of business is really viable. The property owner is a factor and does have to cover his investment and make some income. This is the real world; let's not get too distracted.
