Women in Combat: What Do You Think?

The outgoing Defense Secretary has cleared women for combat.

Sweeping new rules at the Pentagon -- ordered by outgoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta after a year of consultations with senior military officers -- require the military services to expand all positions to women -- or convince the defense secretary why those jobs should remain exclusively male.

Do you support or oppose this change? Tell us in the comments section below.

The armed services have until May 15 to submit specific plans for lifting all remaining job restrictions for women, and until January 2016 for all exemptions to be sought and changes to be put in place, according to a Huffington Post report.

The changes do not require the approval of Congress, which will have 30 days to weigh in on the decision.

I think to use women for social engineering experiments in an arena such as this is unconscionable, This isn't about "equality", women's rights. and this will sound crazy - but given ehat I have researched over the past decade - it fit right into the movement to control population. womb control through abortion, sterilization, govt sanctioned food additives - induced infertility and now we have combat, This is a new low by the shadow govt and gia worshippers - -

Jenna, agreed. Physical standards were lowered to accommodate women in basic training, and will also be changed in AIT. They have to be, or it will be deemed unfair. My son, recently discharged, and his officer friends in Iraq were all opposed to this, as they see it as political-correctness costing lives. There's also the issue of the draft, should it be activated. Richard, in the Army, basic for women has different physical standards, for example, men must do 35 push-ups for female's 13. To make this work, we need enemy forces to adopt the same standards.

Do you understand that joining the army is a free choice for women, The choice to join a field unit is in a combat position is hers and hers alone too. Sounds like you need to take a cold shower and learn a bit about critical thinking!

I am fully supportive of the policy. My concern, and I believe and hope it is unwarranted, is on the implementation level. I do not know about service branches other than my Alma Mater, the Marine Corps, from which I was discharged 48 years ago. Back then there were few women Marines and they had desk jobs for the most part. Since then The Corps has had many more women enlist. Those women go through the same basic training and the male recruits. Let me tell you that the Marine bootcamp is punishing. Anyone who graduates from it is made of hard stuff!

Tough as that is, those Marines who go through Infantry Training Regiment (ITR) (most Marines do not) are headed to be front line ground combatants. That training is severely physically punishing. Some men cannot do it. Some women will not be able to do it. But those who do make it are close quarter war fighters who only care about one thing when it comes to the persons they serve with. Can they do their job? ITR is training and testing. Any woman who passes the test has earned her place in those ranks.

So, my only concern is that the standards applied to women trying to go Army or Marine infantry will be the exactly the same as those applied to men. I believe they will be. As for other combat rolls like artillery, engineers, armor, etc I have am sure most women will do well. In the infantry some men do not so well, so we

Think sanity and tolerance for those you do not understand.

This is long over due as women in the military have been in combat for years and like men in the military have lost their lives in combat. Finally, women in the military will now be eligible for promotions and other opportunities that were not available to them, just because they were not recognized as serving in combat.

Why would anyone have a problem with American women wanting to serve our country by joining the military and pursuing a career of service in the military? Why would anyone not think that women should not be recognized as serving in combat, when they have been doing just that for at least 10 years?

How is it that women making a free choice to serve in the military and being properly recognized for their service in their assignments, making "everyone as one"?
