Ya Gotta Believe in a Beef & Beer for Brains

The Plumstead Inn will host its annual fundraiser for brain cancer research.

The 6th Annual Beef and Beer for Tug McGraw Foundation is on Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Media's favorite local hangout, . The Phillies’ Hall of Famer founded TMF prior to his death in 2004 to help enhance the quality of life of children and adults with brain tumors. In 2009, TMF expanded programs to include post-traumatic stress and trauma brain injury.

Tickets for the event cost $45 per person, with the 45 signifying Tugger’s number, of course. All proceeds benefit the foundation. Admission includes a full buffet of food, unlimited beer, plus discounted wine and drinks.

There will be no shortage of live entertainment. Back by popular demand are Media’s own singer/songwriter Scotty Paynter, Dave Stone: The Johnny Cash Experience, Barb Amalfitano and Frank Wolf, and Becca Calabrese.

The silent auction, live auction and raffle are expected to be bigger and better than ever, with items such as Phillies tickets, a tour of the Linc, sports apparel and signed memorabilia, dinner gift certificates, spa baskets, wine and liquor baskets, and tickets to many local attractions.

The Plumstead community has worked tirelessly to honor Tug McGraw’s legacy and help carry out his mission. Many of the management and regulars feel a special connection to number 45 and his family, as McGraw spent much of his time socializing there. Over the years, the Media group has raised more than $50,000 for TMF.
