Two men were arrested, charged and arraigned in connection with multiple felony burglary counts, Marple Township Police say. Daniel Eberly, 27, of Claymont, Del. and Gregory Karamedas, 68, of Wilmington, Del. were each charged with 10 counts of burglary, according to police. Marple Township Police Lt. Matthew Richter said Eberly and Karamedas are suspected to be involved with multiple burglaries in Delaware, Montgomery, and Chester counties and additional charges are likely. A man stole an undisclosed amount of money from the Citizens Bank branch located on the unit block Woodland Avenue, according to Springfield Township Police. Patrolman David DiTrolio, with other officers, responded and the investigation showed that the man entered the bank, handed the teller a note demanding cash from the drawer and implied that he had a weapon, police said. Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan announced Monday the arrests of two men in separate domestic assault cases. Ernest Manerchia, 57, of West Chester, is a police officer in the City of Chester, Delaware County, and a member of the SWAT team. RADNOR TWP.—Ashley Ryan Hareford, 20, of Grottoes, Virginia, will be charged with multiple felonies including Involuntary Deviant Sexual Intercourse, Statutory Sexual Assault, Indecent Assault, Criminal Use of a Communication Facility, Aggravated Indecent Assault, Indecent Exposure and Corrupting the Morals of a Minor, District Attorney Jack Whelan announced Monday. Rather than Halloween, this year Phoenixville Area School District’s elementary school students will celebrate a “fall festival,” The Pottstown Mercury is reporting. SPRINGFIELD TWP.—On Oct. 30, 1985, Sylvia Seegrist, of Springfield, opened fire in the Springfield Mall parking lot and then proceeded inside. Once inside, she killed a 2-year-old child and two men, reported The Philadelphia Inquirer.  Many others were wounded before, John Laufer, a local graduate student, managed to confront and stop Seegrist until a security guard was able to handcuff her.  After being apprehended, Seegrist's only explanation for her actions was, "My family makes me nervous," according to TruTv. Five managers and owners of the Nifty Fifty's restaurant chain, including two Springfield residents, are charged with tax evasion and conspiracy to commit tax evasion, the FBI announced today, May 16. Defendants Brian Welsh, 48, and Joseph Donnelly, 49, both of Springfield, Leo McGlynn, 52, of Swarthmore, Elena Ruiz, 46, of Drexel Hill and Robert Mattei, 73, of Del Ray Beach, allegedly constructed a long-running scheme that cheated the Internal Revenue Service by failing to properly account for more than $15 million in gross receipts, according to an FBI press release. NEWTOWN SQUARE–A fifth-grade teacher at St. Anastasia's School got a surprise of a lifetime when her boyfriend of almost five years proposed to her outside the school Friday afternoon. A few of the St. Annies fifth graders helped Jeff Elko, of Media, propose to his girlfriend and their teacher, Nicole Nolan, of Havertown, just before lunch in the school's courtyard. NEWTOWN SQUARE–Billboards have been a hot button issue in Newtown Township for some time now but Edgmont Township residents may not be aware of what is happening right down the block. An alternative billboard proposal was presented at Newtown's Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday. BROOMALL–Marple Police released a statement on Tuesday night involving a vehicle crash and one pedestrian killed. According to police, the crash occurred Tuesday night at 6:46 p.m. in the 2000 block of South Sproul Road in Broomall near the Broomall Wawa. An unidentified female was crossing Sproul Road when she was struck by a vehicle that was traveling southbound on the road, said police. The female was pronounced dead at Bryn Mawr Hospital. SPRINGFIELD–Students were locked in their classrooms at Cardinal O'Hara High School as police searched the school for a former employee who went missing, the Delaware County Daily Times and Philly.com reports. According to the report, Pennsylvania State Police located the man at his home in Pennsbury Township, Chester County. Marple, Newtown, Springfield, Media, and Upper Providence police departments on scene and conducted a thorough search of the premises, the Times' report states. An 18-year-old Havertown teenager who was struck and killed by a SEPTA train in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 11, has been identified as Brendan Seward. Seward was scheduled to attend Delaware County Community College this fall semester, according to Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School's principal administrative assistant Marge Roccio, where Seward was a graduate. NEWTOWN SQUARE–A Newtown Square man, who hired a transvestite prostitute via Craigslist, had his car stolen by the same man, who then tried to sell it back to him, according to a recent release from the Newtown Township Police Department. Newtown police received a report of a theft from the unit block of Main Street in Newtown Square. The victim told police that he had advertised on Craigslist and subsequently hired a male prostitute, dressed in women's clothing. Two Radnor teens waiting for the school bus were struck by a car Monday morning. The two Radnor High School students were in critical and stable condition Monday afternoon after being struck head-on by a car at 634 Conestoga Road, a home between Sproul Road and Radnor Avenue. A crowd of about 50 people waited in line just before dawn Oct. 12 in anticipation of Walmart's grand opening at the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center. After a brief ribbon cutting ceremony, the store was doing business shortly after 7 a.m. An invite-only open house was held on the eve of the grand opening. Walmart charitable donations were presented to recipients Oct. 11.
