Impact investing tries to do two things: earn a financial return and generate positive social impact. Bridging the divide between philanthropy and the market, impact investing has the potential to bring substantial resources to bear to resolve pressing social problemsand to do so sustainable. Is this "new asset class" more than just a fad? In what ways does it challenge and support current organizational structures, philanthropic habits, and capital allocation?
Join us for this presentation by Shannon Mudd, U of Chicago PhD'94, a member of the department of economics at Haverford College, where he also coordinates the Microfinance and Impact Investing Initiative (MI3). He has taught at numerous institutions in the United States and Europe, and his research has spanned international capital flows, small business lending, microfinance, and expectations of financial crises.
