Gun Control Vigil, Park Dedication, RTM Meeting Thursday in Media

Read about some of the things happening Thursday in Media.

Here are a few things you need to know to jump start your day. If we missed anything, let us know in the comments below. 

  • School Board: Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 in the auditorium at Springton Lake Middle School. Find the full agenda here
  • Playground: Ribbon cutting at Ray Roche Park to dedicate the new playground equipment at 2 p.m. on Aug. 22. 
  • Vigil: The Delco United for Sensible Gun Policy will hold a candlelight vigil from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Baltimore Avenue and Providence Road in Media. The purpose of the vigil is to help build awareness and policy reforms, such as universal background checks, bans on assault weapons and high capacity magazines, and deterrents to illegal gun trafficking.
  • No Parking: Between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Aug. 22 and 23 there will be no parking along State Street in Media. 
  • Recycle: Area 2 Recycling Collection days in Middletown Township on Aug. 21, 22 and 23
  • Food: Media Farmers' Market runs from 3 to 7 p.m., next to the Media Theatre
  • Training: Edgmont Township Volunteer Fire Training at 7 p.m. at 1010 Gradyville Road
  • Traffic: Check on your commute on the PennDOT traffic cameras before you leave the house. But the traffic will likely be terrible—it's traffic.
  • Weather: The forecast calls for temperatures to reach mid-80s with scattered thunderstorms. Things are expected to cool down to the 60s in the evening with continued scattered thunderstorms.
  • History: Per the History Channel, on this day in 1992, Hurricane Andrew hit the Bahamas and in 1950 Althea Gibson became the first African-American on U.S. tennis tour.
