Penncrest High School Inducts Three of Its Finest Into Hall of Fame

Media, PA:   Penncrest High School inducted three alumni into the Rose Tree Media Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame.  Among those honored were Stephen Bloom, Class of 1979, James V. Coe, Jr., Class of 1976, and David E. Johnson, P.E., F.ASCE, Class of 1968.

 

Stephen Bloom represents the citizens of the 199th Legislative District (Cumberland County) in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Author of the books The Believer’s Guide to Legal Issues and They’ve Crossed the Line: A Patriot’s Guide to Religious Freedom, he has been a successful lawyer in private practice and an adjunct instructor at Messiah College. Stephen is a member of the Carlisle Alliance Church and has been active in the leadership of numerous civic organizations and ministries.

James Coe has distinguished himself as a scientific researcher in his career as a Professor of Chemistry at The Ohio State University.  He has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers, given many international talks, and has been a Fellow of the American Physical Society since 2008.  His research currently involves finding applications of plasmonics in biology, chemistry, and physics.  Mr. Coe’s work includes the development of a method to record spectra of sub wavelength particles, which includes chemically characterizing the dust particles that are inhaled into people's lungs.

David Johnson has spent his career in the land development industry. He was instrumental in establishing the first U.S. undergraduate Land Development curriculum for civil engineering students. Mr. Johnson teaches third and fourth level land development courses at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a licensed professional engineer in five states and a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers. He has published numerous articles and authored two books on land development that have become a primary resource for the real estate development industry. Mr. Johnson continues to give back to his profession and community through volunteering, mentoring, and teaching.

 

The Rose Tree Media Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame was established in 1994 to honor Media High School and Penncrest High School graduates who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavor.  With the 2013 induction class, the Hall of fame now includes 74 members.  A candidate is eligible for induction ten years after graduation from high school.
