So it's getting to be that time of year again - sports injuries, belly aches from too much BBQ sauce and, yes, again, talks of West Nile Virus in our area.
While it has been hitting media outlets more frequently over the past couple of years, it is important to know that the complications are quite rare.  Only 20% of those infected are symptomatic, and of those infected, only 1% may suffer the more significant complications.  The elderly who contract WNV are at higher risk.

Please read see this short article written last summer regarding West Nile Virus: http://6abc.com/archive/9196001/

Also, here is what the CDC states regarding the virus which causes significant issues in the vast minority of cases: http://www.cdc.gov/westnile/index.html

We recommend seeking medical attention if you exhibit signs and symptoms.  A simple blood test can be performed to confirm the diagnosis.  In most cases, recovery is uneventful.
