Blues Stroll, MuckFest, 2nd Saturday Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Are you looking to get down and dirty this weekend or just looking to get down with some Blues music? Media's 13th Annual Blues Stroll and Newtown Square's MuckFest—the muddy fun run, are two big events happening this weekend.

Blues Stroll

  • When: Saturday, June 8, at 6 p.m., rain or shine
  • Where: Downtown Media
  • Why Go: The theme of the 13th Annual Stroll is "Women of the Blues II" and will feature 25 outstanding blues acts in more than 20 venues. Featured artists include: Paul Rishell & Annie Raines, Leroy Hawkes & the Hipnotics with Stacy Brooks, Lonnie Shields Band, and Danielle Miraglia.
  • Cost: $15 advance, $20 at door

MuckFest

  • When: Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9
  • Where: Ellis Preserve, 3805 West Chester Pike in Newtown Square
  • Why Go: Get ready to get dirty at this mud and obstacle fun-run that benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The five-mile course features mazes, pits and craters and many obstacles. After you've crossed teh finish line head to the MuckFestival area for some food, beer and music.
  • Cost: Day of registration $100, On-site parking is limited

2nd Saturday

  • When: Saturday, June 8, at 6 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown Media
  • Why Go: Enjoy music, art and local business. Kids can try sand painting and adults can enjoy folk, blues and American roots music by the Dollar Band at 7 p.m. in the Franklin Mint lobby.
  • Cost: Free

Delco Senior Games 

  • When: June 10 through 21
  • Where: Throughout Delaware County
  • Why Go: Delaware County senior athletes will have the chance to show their athletic skills and compete for medals in a variety of Olympic-style sports such as golf, bowling, tennis, basketball, swimming and track and field.
  • Cost: $15 registration for the games. Open to all Delaware County residents 50 and older.

PRC Newtown Square Farmer's Market

  • When: Every Wednesday, June 5 through October 9, from to 2 to 6 p.m.
  • Where: Mostardi’s Nursery, 4033 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square
  • Why Go: The Farmers Market kicks off Wednesday and offers chemical-free, local fruits and vegetables, Amish baked goods, relishes, mustards, pickles, preserves, jams, fudge, pies, cookies, numerous varieties of hummus, gourmet cookies, Italian cookies, scones, muffins,
    barbecued chicken, ribs and pulled chicken and pork, chocolate truffles, all natural bath products, flowers, gardening supplies, trees, plants shrubs and much more.
  • Cost: Free

Journey to Joy Book Signing

  • When: Friday, June 7, from 7 to 10 a.m.
  • Where: Starbucks Coffee, 3512 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square
  • Why Go: Meet Authors Sarah Carkner and Sheila Turner and their newly-released book, Journey to Joy.
  • Cost: Free

Strawberry Festival

  • When: Friday, June 7, from 5 to 8 p.m.
  •  Where: Marple Presbyterian Church, 105 N Sproul Rd, Broomall
  • Why Go: Enjoy strawberries, ice cream and cake while having fun with a moon bounce and face painting. Shop for attic treasures, used books and plant sale.
  • Cost: $5
