Dining Under the Stars, Shred Event, Mom Prom Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Safely dispose of your unwanted electronics and paperwork at a shred event. Check out the animals at the 4-H Fair, pick up some plants at a Plant Sale and dine outdoors at your favorite restaurant.

6th Annual Dining Under the Stars

  • When: Kicks off Wednesday, May 1 and continues every Wednesday through September, weather permitting, from 5 to 11 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown Media
  • Why Go: Pick your favorite Media restaurant and dine al fresco. Media's Streets are closed for outdoor dining from Jackson to Orange streets on State Street. Reservation are suggested.
  • Cost: Varies

Plant Sale

  • When: Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: Tyler Arboretum, 515 Painter Rd in Media
  • Why Go: Pick up those hard to find trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and herbs. This year’s sale features a special selection of plants grown for their fragrance.
  • Cost: Free Admission

Mom Prom

  • When: Saturday, May 4, at 7 p.m.
  • Where: Barnaby's Aston, 5501 Pennell Rd in Media
  • Why Go: Enjoy a ladies night out to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. You don't have to be a mom, just a lady who wants to have fun and help a charity. Enjoy food, drinks, DJ, dancing and raffles.
  • Cost: $35 in advance and $40 at the door

Jazz Brunch

  • When: Friday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Where: Rose Tree Inn, 1243 N Providence Rd in Media
  • Why Go: Enjoy brunch and jazz with the Matt McCarrin jazz trio.
  • Cost: Varies

4-H Fair and Open House

  • When: Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine
  • Where: Garrett Williamson Foundation, 395 Bishop Hollow Road in Newtown Square
  • Why Go: Check out the sheep, cattle, and poultry being raised by 4-H members along with the educational exhibits about the 4-H clubs and the projects they have completed during the past year. Help the members raise money and enjoy pony rides and a bake sale.
  • Cost: Free

Broomall Fire Co. Spring Carnival

  • When: Friday, May 3, from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday, May 4, from 3 to 11 p.m. and Sunday, May 5, from 1 to 6 p.m.
  • Where: Broomall Fire Company, 10 N Malin Rd in Broomall
  • Why Go: Enjoy games, rides and food while supporting the Broomall Fire Company at the town's biggest family-friendly event of the year.
  • Cost: 56 tickets for $50 and wristband day, which offers $25 per person for all rides, is Sunday, May 5.

Shredding and E-Waste Event

  • When: Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Where: Brookhaven Borough Building, 2 Cambridge Rd, Brookhaven, PA
  • Why Go: Rep. Joe Hackett and Covanta Energy Corporation will host a free electronics collection to help residents recycle. Computers, printers, fax machines, DVD and VCRs, TVs, cell phones, cameras, stereos, and electronic games will be accepted. Prohibited items include loose batteries, hazardous wastes and liquids, toner cartridges, and common electrical appliances.
  • Cost: Free

Spring Food Drive

  • When: May 1 through 11 , All day 
  • Where: Alliance Bank, Newtown Square Branch, 3590 West Chester Pike in Newtown Square
  • Why Go: Bring canned goods and non-perishable items. All donations will benefit the Upper Darby Food Cupboard.
  • Cost: Free
