Statistical reports on Media Patch residents' international roots—such as birthplaces, ancestries and languages spoken at home—are among the vast array of data in the U.S. Census Bureau's 2011 American Community Survey.
The five-year survey, produced by sample interviews from 2007 through 2011, was released in early December.
Among the notable results:
- About 8.7 percent of Delaware County residents were born outside the United States, compared to the state's 5.7 percent.
- Irish is the most common ancestry reported by residents in all of Media Patch's municipalities and Delaware County, according to the Census Bureau, with Italian and German coming in second.
- Nearly 85 percent of people not born in the United States entered before the year 2000.
