Get Out: Musicals and Music Galore

See what's going on for the first week of 2013 in Media.

While December evokes memories of snuggling up in front of a crackling fire in the fireplace, baking sugar cookies with grandma, playing card games with family and decorating the tree, don't get caught being a homebody in January.

There are plenty of things to keep you going in 2013. Patch has your week's adventures here.

Small Treasures Art Exhibition

When: January 1-8 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Where: Beauty Art Gallery

Why go: This exhibit could be interesting for art enthusiasts and showcases local artists' creations from jewelry to mosaics to ceramics to photographs.

Cost: Free 


Psychic Night with Jeananne

When: Thursday, January 3 at 6 p.m.

Where: Upper Providence Grille

Why go: For something quite different, whether you believe in it or not, a psychic reading could be fun. Not only do you have dinner, but you get to participate in a medium psychic reading from Jeananne, who's appeared on "America's Got Talent."

Cost: $20

 

"Dr. Doolittle" Musical

When: January 2-6.

Where: Media Theater

Why go: This could be a fun event for kids or lovers of the classic Dr. Doolittle, a veterinarian who could talk to animals.

Cost: Tickets $25-49.

 

"The World Turned Upside Down:" An American Revolution Reading and Lecture Series

When: January 10 at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Middletown Free Library

Why go: Calling all history buffs! The Middletown Free Library will only hold two more events in the series, following this event. The January 10 event will go over the  Army life of Redcoats and Continental soldiers.

Cost: Free

 

Fashion Illustration Workshop

When: Friday, January 11

Where: Darlington Arts Center, 997 Shavertown Rd.

Why go: This event will be for children ages nine to 13. The class is designed for kids who may be interested in design or art or perhaps just want to try something new. It'll teach them to sketch a model and garments.

Cost: $35

 

Eternal Rhythm Band

When: Friday, January 11 at 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Where: Media Theatre

Why go: Michael "Mowtown" Carter, of Media, and his band will make for a high-energy night of dancing to rhythem and blues and funk.

Cost: $15

 

Chameleon Band performance

When: Friday, January 4 and 11

Where: Rose Tree Inn

Why go: For a night of dance, high-energy music, drinks and food.

Cost: Cover will be free.
