Honor, Celebrate, Volunteer on MLK Day

For some, the national Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day honoring the prominent civil rights activist is a time to give back and serve the community. For others, it’s an opportunity to educate themselves about King and his life's work.

Below is a list of what business and government buildings are open and closed on Monday, Jan. 20 and ideas or places to volunteer, along with some area events to honor King.

  • 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.:  Chester Boys & Girls Club (201 E. 7th St., Chester)
  • 9:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.:  STEM Academy at Showalter High School (1100 W. 10th St., Chester)
  • 1 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.:  Ceremonial Wreath-Laying (Old Main Building, Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Upland)
  • 2 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.:  Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration (Clark Auditorium, Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Upland)
  • 6:30 p.m.:  Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration (Alumni Auditorium, Widener University, Chester)
