Ribbon Cutting Marks Ray Roche Park Updates

Kids were climbing all over the new Upper Providence Township playground equipment immediately.

Ray Roche Park in Upper Providence Township is officially new and improved following a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon.

Upper Providence Township Council members and officials cut the big red ribbon wrapped around the park's new equipment, officially marking it as ready to use.

And it only took seconds for the kids to start climbing.

"Look at the new stuff," Conor Anstotz, 4, yelled to his siblings as he ran into the park.

Some of the updates to the park, located at Maple and First avenues, included the installation of a new jungle-gym, climbing area, with a rubberized safety mat around all of the equipment, spring-mounted animals, two new benches, and the swingsets were repainted, Upper Providence Township Manager Greg Lebold said.

Township Chairman Joseph Solomon thanked everyone who played a role in the playground updates from design to installation

"It's been a great undertaking for the community," Solomon said. "We've always felt that pocket parks are what we've wanted to expand in the township. ...As the budget allows we'll be able to put more money into this park and other parks in the township"

Lisa Mundy, 4th district council member, also thanked everyone for the improvements to the park which she hopes to enjoy with her growing family.

"Hopefully soon I will be able to take my little one out on this wonderful playground," Mundy, who is currently six months pregnant, said.
