Santa Claus Arrives in Media

The Christmas season is officially here thanks to Santa's arrival on Black Friday.

Santa arrived in style on a Media Fire Company fire truck with flashing lights, cheers of the crowd, and the band, Makin' Music, singing "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" on Friday night.

This year onlookers from all over Delaware County were able to spread out and get a great view of the festivities at the new location of the Delaware County Courthouse. The Philly Phanatic made an appearance once again and pumped up the crowd for the big arrival. Once Santa made his way to the courthouse steps he counted down to the lighting of the Christmas lights on State Street. The only disappointment was from in front of the courthouse, spectators could not see State Street illuminate.

To close out the event, children lined up to meet Santa himself. It was a fun event that moved much quicker then in previous years, making it more enjoyable for the youngest of participants who find it hard to be patient.

All-in-all, Santa's arrival in Media was a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season.

Be sure to check out all of the local holiday events happening around town throughout the season.

Unfortunately, Santa's arrival was not good news for the businesses on State Street. As a retailer, we watched as hundreds of customers walked right by our store and out of the main retail district to find Santa at the courthouse. Our business was way off from previous years! We hope that some creative thinking can be done to bring this holiday tradition back to State Street. Our retail district needs all the help it can get with this year's economy. This Black Friday in Media was literally a "black" kickoff.

While we has a better view of Santa this year, what a huge letdown for the kids when the countdown led to nothing! They love when Santa turns the lights on state street on, they were so confused this year when the countdown happened and Ed to nothing! Not sure who made the switch this year ir why, but what a disappointment. if they had Santa drive up state street at least once on the fire truck before parking at spassos, everyone could see like they used to do.
