Veterans Day Parade Set for Monday

Media's 54nd Annual Veterans Day Parade will march at 11:11 a.m. on Nov. 11.

Media's 54nd Annual Veterans Day Parade, which is the largest Veterans Day parade in the state, will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, at 11:11 a.m.

The parade will kick off with the roar of motorcycles down State Street. Then the thousands of parade-goers will enjoy 11 area school marching bands, fire trucks and first responders, the Valley Forge Military Academy Mounted Color Guard and Drummers and of course veterans.

This year's essay contest winners will each read their essay in the ceremony following the parade at the Delaware County Courthouse steps and the Grand Marshals will be U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Jason Simms and John Nagl, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and the current headmaster of The Haverford School, Media Mayor Bob McMahon said.

The flag exchange will also take place during the ceremony, co-parade organizer Bob Dimond said. This year, veteran parents will pass the flags to their sons, daughters, or even grandchildren who have also served in the Armed Forces, Dimond said.

The parade route will begin at State Street and Edgmont Avenue and march down State to Orange Street and then turn onto Front Street. The guest speakers and a ceremony will follow the parade in front of the County Courthouse.
