Concert to Benefit Peace Summer Camp in Chester

The Tribe 1 troupe will perform June 15 in Chester at a fund-raising concert for an unusual summer camp based in the city.

The concert will benefit the Peace, Leadership & the Arts Summer Camp at Chester Eastside Ministries. In its third year, the camp offers youth ages 13 to 16 a rigorous exploration of peace-building for self and community, leadership development

and artistic expression. It will be held from Aug. 14 through 24 (for information, call 610-872-4812, ext. 4).

Tribe 1 is an ensemble of singers, poets and drummers dedicated to performing songs of transformation, inspiration and motivation -- songs that nurture the soul and remind us of our interconnection. The troupe invites its audience to simply enjoy or to share in the performance. Tribe 1 has toured internationally, and its members are community activists, conflict-resolution consultants and educators as well as performers.

The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Chester Eastside Ministries, 420 E. Ninth St. A goodwill donation is requested. CEM is an urban mission of the Presbytery of Philadelphia, providing a wide array of services, including emergency food and clothing aid, pastoral counseling, after-school education, the summer camp, and G.E.D. training for adults. To make an online donation, go to www.chestereastside.org and indicate “Peace Camp.”
