Get Out: 2nd Saturday, Electronic Waste, Pet Expo

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.

Baby, it's cold outside but there are still plenty of fun things to do in the area. Here is a list of local events happening around town. What are you doing this weekend?

2nd Saturday Arts Stroll

  • When: Saturday, Jan. 12, 6 p.m.
  • Where: throughout downtown Media
  • Why Go: The featured artist is Emily Geddes and featured musician Danie Ocean, a singer-songwriter from Philadelphia whose musical style ranges from jazz, punk pop, to R&B, will perform at 7 p.m. at Franklin Mint Credit Union. 
  • Cost: Free

American Revolution Reading and Lecture Series

  • When: Thursday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m.
  • Where: Middletown Free Library, 21 N. Pennell Road
  • Why Go: An American Revolution, five-lecture series led by local historian Andrew Miller. Receive a copy of A Narrative of a Revolutionary Soldier: Some Adventures, Dangers, and Sufferings of Joseph Plumb Martin and The American Revolution by Bruce Lancaster and join your neighbors in a group discussion.
  • Cost: Free

Free Electronic Waste Recycling Collection

  • When: Saturday, Jan. 12 at 9 a.m.
  •  Where: 200 S. Providence Rd in Media
  • Why Go: Accepting everything with a cord: microwave ovens, coffee makers, alarm clocks, computers, TVs, printers and more. The only exceptions are Freon items and large appliances like dishwashers and ovens.
  • Cost: Free

Fashion Illustration Workshop

  • When: Friday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m.
  • Where: Darlington Arts Center, 977 Shavertown Rd in Garnet Valley
  • Why Go: This workshop, for ages 9 to 13, will use a live model for aspiring designers to learn how to draw the figure. Bring a large drawing pad and a table easel, if possible.
  • Cost: $35

Greater Philadelphia Pet Expo

  • When: Friday, Jan. 11 through Sunday, Jan. 13, all day 
  • Where: Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Avenue in Oaks, PA
  • Why Go: The three-day show offers educational and entertaining pet performances, attractions, hands-on-petting opportunities, a shopping venue for pet products and services and a wide variety of pets. Enjoy the Classic K9 Performance Dogs, Rainforest Reptile shows, a petting zoo and pony rides. Well-behaved pets are welcome to attend the expo.
  • Cost: $12 for adults, $5 for children
