Get Out: Films, Flowers and a Fun Fest
Check out these things to do this first weekend of March in the greater Media Patch area.
It’s Thursday, so it’s time to think about the weekend plans. March has arrived, and spring is just weeks away. Bloom into the season by visiting the world’s largest indoor flower show. Play some games at a Spring Fling. Support filmmakers, both local and international, at the annual Film Fest.There’s plenty going on, so let Media Patch offer five ideas for you.
1. Media Film Festival

Where/When: ; Thursday, March 3 through Saturday, March 5 at 7 p.m. Special Late Night Horror Fest screening on Friday at 10:30 p.m.
Why Go: The 4th annual event, organized by Media Arts Council, will feature independent regional, national and international films. Works include narrative, documentary, animation and experimental. After Saturday’s screenings, there will be an awards ceremony, followed by an after party at . There will be two workshops on Saturday. One focuses on animation, the other on new digital cinema tools.

2. Philadelphia International Flower Show
Where/When: Pennsylvania Convention Center; Sunday, March 6 to Sunday, March 13; check Web site for times
Why Go: The Flower Show will transport visitors to the City of Light, the capital of art, fashion, food and love. "Springtime in Paris" will greet guests with a scene along the Seine River, blooming with flowering trees, lilacs, roses and lavender. Featured displays will highlight many themes, including Paris’ Victorian glamour, romance, and the courtyards and cafes from a Parisian paradise. There will also be free presentations all week, and dozens of displays that explore the newest gardening trends. A marketplace offers memorabilia for sale, and also gardening products. Visitors will enjoy free wine tastings as well.

3. Harley-Davidson Women-Only Garage Party
Where/When: Hannum's Harley-Davidson; Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Why Go: All women are invited, from new to experienced riders. There will be informative and interactive stations, information about getting your bike ready for post-winter rides, a spring fashion show, refreshments, live entertainment and a raffle and door prizes.

4. Segal Puppet Theatre
Where/When:; Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.
Why Go: The little ones will love this 40-minute interactive puppet show of friendship and love. Mark Segal began the Puppet Theatre in 1977, and has since served a million happy customers. In 1986, he developed Tooth Buddy Tales, which is a dental education and awareness program for local children.

5. Loomis Elementary Spring Fling Fun Fair
Where/When: Loomis Elementary School, Broomall; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: The community is invited to participate in a day filled with games, raffles, prizes, great food, a photo booth face painting and more.
