Chrome Hair Salon Hosts Open House Monday

Upper Providence Township's newest hair salon officially opens for business on Tuesday.

After about 15 years in the hair salon business, Upper Providence Township residents Becky and Johnny Chambers, decided it was time to take the next step and open their own salon.

Chrome Salon will host an Open House for anyone to stop in and say hello on Monday, Nov. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. Then on Tuesday, they are officially open for business and ready to cut hair.

The idea of owning and operating their own hair salon had been in the works for about five years, the Chambers say, but once plans were put in place the idea turned into a reality pretty quickly.

"We wanted to take the next step and do our own thing," Becky Chambers says. "So we made the jump."

The Process

The husband and wife team wanted to open a Paul Mitchell signature salon, meaning they exclusively use those hair products. They wanted the high-end salon style, but in a more comfortable and affordable atmosphere, Becky says.

About two months ago, Becky and Johnny, both Penncrest graduates, met with the owners of Pulse Beauty Academy, where Johnny teaches hair styling, and their business plan was put in motion. They signed a lease on their Providence Road location, did a full renovation and a month later, Chrome is ready to cut hair.

"We went from having a meeting to opening a place, in two months," Johnny says.

The Chambers say the folks at Pulse were a huge help in mentoring them on how to open a salon but it was their friends and family that helped with all the heavy lifting and renovations.

"We wouldn't have gotten it down without our family, our clients and the staff at Pulse," Johnny says. "We really can't thank everyone enough for sticking with us."

Becky adds that the entire overhaul of the space, which was formerly a consignment shop, and the construction was led by the patriarchs of each of their families.

"We really couldn't have done this without both of our dads," Becky says.

The Style

Becky was the decider behind the name, Chrome, despite Johnny's friends believing he had a hand in it. When Johnny isn't cutting or teaching hair styling, he is riding his motorcycle.

"Yeah, I have custom Harleys and I've been into fast cars for awhile and if you ask anyone they'd say, 'Oh, Johnny got his way with the name,' but it was actually all Becky," he says.

Becky says she wanted an elegant name that wasn't "cheesy" and showed they were a unisex salon. The color chrome inspires her and they wanted a one-word name, so they went with it.

The Cut

The seven stylists at Chrome offer a full service salon with cuts, color, up-do's, waxing and hairstyling for women, men and children.

Chrome will offer competitive pricing and specials and until Jan. 1 woman's cuts will start at $27.

Clients are already booking appointments for Chrome's first week so call now to book an appointment but walk-in's are always welcome as well.

Chrome is located at 1305 N. Providence Road in Media (Upper Providence Township) and you can call 610-565-4700 to schedule an appointment.
