Media Farmer's Market Opens Thursday

The Farmer's Market will feature new vendors, new foods and some musical guests to kick off its second year in the Media Theater parking lot.

The Media Farmer's Market is back for its second season, and they kick off their expanded lineup of farmers and products on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the parking lot. They'll be open every Thursday from 3-7 p.m. through November 17.

"There are many new farmers and vendors that expand this year’s market. We will introduce new types of fresh food and locally made products to temp the taste buds of everyone who stops by the parking lot next to the Media Theater every Thursday," Market Committee member Addie Ciannella says.

One of this year's newcomers, Great Harvest Bread Company, mils its own flour and sports a variety of healthy breads, all of which will be available to sample. Another new vendor, First State Creamery, makes goat’s milk cheeses; both raw milk hard cheeses and soft pasteurized cheeses. Burlap and Bean will be there with their fair trade coffee. Maiale’s Salumeria will also be joining the market this year with their handmade artisanal sausages, salami, pasta and sauces.

For you fruit bats out there, made in the Shade Lemonade will be on hand selling drinks infused with locally grown fruits and herbs, and Jack’s Jams and Jellies are made from locally produced fruits.

The Hillside Farm, Fruitwood Farms, Herrcastle Farm, Freecon Farm, and E. Fudd & Son (yes, the "E" stands for Elmer), will bring fruits and vegetables throughout the seasons, and Mushrooms of Chadds Ford will introduce its marinated mushrooms and freshly made mushroom soup. Humanely raised poultry will be available again this year from Red Haven Farm, and Birchrun Farms returns for their second year with pork, veal and cheese selections.

The market bell rings at 3 p.m., and entertainment starts shortly after with Christine Kinlow. Then Janine Kelly, well-know children’s performer, will tune up her guitar for a sing-along starting at 3:45 p.m. The entertainment continues at 5 p.m. with The Wayne Harvey Band.

Gather up your reusable shopping bags and get ready for another six months of delicious, healthy and locally grown farm products. (Would it be too much to end here with a "YEE-HAW!" ? I think not.)
