London Olympics: Practice, Pampering and Press

Even though the Archery Team has completed their run at the London Olympics, practice is still important. And a little pampering is nice too.

GOOD MORNING

Aug. 5—Slept in today. Got up at 4:30 a.m. today to help Jenny get to the bus to go home. Yes, I went back to bed. No one practiced today, for those that are still here we went out sightseeing with their families. I ended up going to the Procter & Gamble (P&G) House. This is where families and friends can meet up with on other and get a bite to eat and drink, and the food is good. P&G House has a man cave where guys can get a haircut and shave, it has a laundry drop off-where anyone can get there laundry done for free, a kiddies corner, Internet, big screen TV to view the games, a salon-where gals can get their hair cut, color etc., manicure and pedicures, facials etc.—all for free. It is a great help to parents and friends coming to the games. It was so nice having a day off.

Aug. 6—Today was another day off, no practicing. Went to the Beats House to try to get headphones. Talk around the village was that everyone was getting free Beats. We were about right at the door when they announced no more in stock. Just my luck. They told us to register and come back tomorrow. We did just that. Came back and just relaxed the rest of the day.

Aug. 7—Had to get up at 4:30 a.m. to help Khatuna get to the bus area to head back to the States. And again, went back to bed, but not for long because we had a 9 a.m. practice and the shuttle bus was leaving at 8:30 a.m. Had to shoot outdoors today and it is right next to a trash dump. Can you just image the aroma in the air? This is when having sinus problems comes in handy. After practice we decided to head back to the Beats House for our appointment was at 12:30 p.m.  We get there and on the door, yes, closed for the day. This is getting quite frustrating. Went to the Nike House to get lunch and then back to the village. No sooner did we get back to the village, Miranda had to get ready for the interview at the NBC studio. . Talk about a mad dash to get to the studio. But we made it. Miranda did a great job. We also were invited to have dinner there. (View the video segment here.)

Aug. 8—Another very early morning. Brady went home today and this time I had to get up by 3 a.m. to get him to the Welcome Center to head to the airport. For some reason it was very hard to get back to sleep. Since practice was in the afternoon, Miranda and I had a free facial scheduled at 9 a.m., then a massage and back at 11:30 a.m. to have a manicure, all for free. Yes, we took advantage and pampered ourselves this morning. We had practice in the afternoon at SCORE and this time it was indoors. No more smells.

Went back to the village and changed and went over to the P&G house to eat. From there I took a chance with Miranda to see if we could get tickets to beach volleyball. No luck. I’m striking out on getting to see an event. Walked around Big Ben area and then back to the village. I was so tired and couldn’t wait to get back and fall asleep.

Hope everyone has a good night.
