Fair Acres Offers New Website

Fair Acres offers new website as resource for families seeking skilled care for a loved one.

Fair Acres, Delaware County’s skilled care facility in Middletown, has a new website that provides an informative and user-friendly resource for families looking for a nursing care facility for a loved one.

Delaware County Council announced the newly designed website at the May 15 Council meeting when Council joined Fair Acres staff and residents in declaring May 12-18 as National Nursing Home Week.

The new website at www.fairacres.org gives residents detailed information on the facility, admission procedures, available services, volunteer opportunities, employment opportunities and contact information to arrange for a meeting or tour.

“It’s important for people to be able to access thorough information when they are looking for a skilled care facility for their grandparent, parent or family member,” said Delaware County Council Vice Chairman Mario J. Civera Jr., Council’s liaison to Fair Acres.

“Fair Acres is an excellent facility that provides compassionate, quality care for residents with the goal of maximizing their independence and quality of life. There are some misconceptions that people have about Fair Acres that stem from the days when people referred to it as the ‘county poor house,’” Civera said.

Civera said there is no “waiting list” for people to be admitted. Depending on a person’s needs, there is capacity and there are many options for them at Fair Acres.

Also, there are people of all ages getting care at Fair Acres, including younger people who have suffered a traumatic injury or a debilitating illness such as multiple sclerosis.

Fair Acres provides individualized care to over 900 residents who range in age from young adults to seniors in their 100s.

“We encourage people to visit the website and review all of the individualized services such as physical and occupational therapy, and therapeutic activities such as trips, adapted sports, bingo, senior proms, movies, holiday and birthday parties, and cooking club,” said Fair Acres Administrator Bill D’Amico.

According to the website: “The admissions staff works closely with hospitals, community agencies and families to assess the applicant’s need for the specialized health care services provided at Fair Acres. Staff is available to assist families in facilitating and expediting the admission process.”

People can download the admissions packet from the website to assist in gathering the necessary medical and financial information needed to apply for admission. Fair Acres accepts Medicare, Medicaid and private pay.

“If people are seeking 24-hour skilled care for a family member, they should come out and tour our facility and see the wonderful care provided at Fair Acres,” D’Amico said. “All they need to do is call.”

The new website has information on employment opportunities, such as dietary aide, and free Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) training.

Fair Acres also has many volunteer opportunities and a Friends of Fair Acres committee.

There is also a section for news and events. On June 5, Fair Acres will host its annual June Fair that features food, fun and raffles. Members of the community are invited to come out and enjoy the fair along with Fair Acres residents.

People are invited to visit the website at www.fairacres.org and learn about the county’s skilled care facility.
