County collects 138 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs

Just three weeks after announcing the Delco Medicine Drop box initiative, county officials collected 138 pounds of expired and unused prescription drugs from the 11 drug drop boxes placed throughout the county. The Delco Medicine Drop boxes are an initiative of the Delaware County Heroin Task Force, formed in 2012 to reduce the destructive impact of heroin and abused prescription drugs on the community. Delaware County Councilman Dave White, (left) a member of the Heroin Task Force, Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Detective David McDonald and District Attorney Jack Whelan removed a full box of discarded medications on Oct. 28 from the Delco Medicine Drop box located in the lobby of the Delaware County Government Center in Media. Residents can safely and anonymously dispose of prescription medications at the Government Center or at boxes at 10 police departments throughout the county.
