County Council Helps Williamson Celebrate 125th Anniversary

Delaware County Councilman David J. White (center) presented a resolution adopted by County Council commemorating Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades, Middletown Township, on the school’s 125th anniversary to Williamson President Michael Rounds (1st from left), who was accompanied to the Oct. 16 Council meeting by students Eric Gardner (left), President of the Class of 2014, Jared Pendleton (1st from right), a class officer of the  Class of 2016, and Matt Roy (right), President of the  Class of 2015.

Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades was established in 1888 by Isaiah V. Williamson to provide a free trade school for poor and deserving young men in a setting in which they would be prepared to make their way in the world independently as useful and respected citizens.  Over the course of three years at the school, students receive a broad education that includes study and trade and technical theory in the classroom and realistic work projects.  Training at Williamson goes far beyond the classroom as students live in a carefully structured environment that includes daily chapel, work details, a dress code and clearly defined rules and responsibilities.

Joining in the presentation were (2nd row, from left) Councilman John P. McBlain, Council Chairman Thomas J. McGarrigle, Council Vice Chairman Mario J. Civera Jr. and Councilwoman Colleen P. Morrone.
