Three Veterans Raise U.S. Navy Flag

Three U. S. Navy veterans joined Delaware County Council in raising the U. S. Navy Flag in the courtyard of the Government Center and Courthouse complex, Media, to commemorate the anniversary of the Navy, which was established on Oct. 13, 1775.

County Council Vice Chairman Mario J. Civera Jr. (left) welcomed Ed Buffman (1st from left), a World War II veteran and founding member of the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum, George Letherbury (2nd from left), a Korean War veteran and volunteer at the museum, and Angelo Marsella (3rd from left), a veteran of the D-Day invasion at Normandy and museum volunteer. Civera was joined by (from right) Council Chairman Thomas J. McGarrigle and Councilmembers John P. McBlain, Colleen P. Morrone and Councilman David J. White.

County Council authorized the flying of the flags of the five military branches for one week in connection with their birth dates on flagpoles in front of the Courthouse, Media, and in the courtyard.  The U.S. Army Flag was raised in connection with the anniversary of its founding on June 14, 1775; the U.S. Coast Guard Flag was raised in connection with that founding on Aug. 4, 1790; and the U.S. Air Force Flag was raised to celebrate the anniversary of its establishment on Sep. 18, 1947.  A flag to commemorate the anniversary of the Marine Corps founded on Nov. 10, 1775, will fly in November.
