Fair Acres Cooking Club Prepares Thanksgiving Feast

The Fair Acres Cooking Club prepared a Thanksgiving feast during their regular sessions in November.

, in Middletown, serves more than 900 residents, ranging in age from young adults to the elderly. The Fair Acres Cooking Club is one of many activities offered to residents at Fair Acres through Therapeutic Activity Services, according to the Delaware County Department of Public Relations.

About 20 residents can be found chopping, paring and cooking a wide variety of meals in the specially designed kitchen every Tuesday during Cooking Club.

The residents enjoy exchanging stories of baking without the aid of measuring spoons, making meals from scratch and learning how to take command of a kitchen by watching their mothers, not the Food Network, according to the Delaware County Department of Public Relations.

"That's the fun of the cooking club," said Eileen Emmerling, a staff member of the Therapeutic Activity Services Department. "There are a lot of memories connected to food."

Lois Ignudo, 67, said she has quite a few years of cooking experience under her belt.

"I always loved cooking," she said. "I cooked for my family, but I also did a lot of entertaining. I enjoy being able to do a little cooking like this again."
