Great Finds Down Every Street at the Great Media Garage Days

Everything from books and jewelry to fooseball tables and motorcross gear was pulled from garages, closets, and attics for the 25th year of the Great Media Garage Days.

Shoppers sought out treasure as they browsed through the homes of the Great Media Garage Days Saturday. Bargain hunters could pick up maps at and that featured 40 local homes scattered throughout Media.

The sale runs Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monroe and Jefferson streets were two of the biggest hotspots with four homes on each street listed on the map. Even homes that were off the grid dragged out tables and sold their finest unwanted items.

Media resident, Robin Kirchhoff admitted to missing the deadline to get on the map, but that didn't stop her. A quick look down Amber Street, revealed her tables with a mixture of dishes (two brand new Dansk sets, never used) and motorcross gear.

Other residents like Sonja Borden, have been a featured home for 20 years. Her family pulls together a mixture of goods each year and Borden, along with her brother-in-law Larry Lorah sells, sells, sells. Borden says that Lorah has a story to go with every item, which included a set of wooden golf clubs and a very cool retro Coca-cola clock.

"We like it, you get to meet people you haven't seen for a while," said Borden.

Patty McFadden and Connie Kreydt were still setting up some of their merchandise at 10 a.m. Saturday.

"It's a tradition," declared McFadden who with Kreydt invite friends, family, and co-workers from the Towne House to come out to sell and socialize.

McFadden says their yard sale seems to grow throughout the day and ends up being more of a social gathering than fall cleaning. Along with used items, she was selling her fun handmade aprons.

Fred and Tina Mason have been inviting friends to sell in their neighborhood for 15 years. The Masons recalled when they first moved to the neighborhood there was a little confusion. In the early morning hours, Tina Mason heard noises and dragging sounds coming from the back yard. At the time they were building a shed so she assumed someone was stealing their materials. Fred Mason was on duty at the police precinct when the call from his own house came in. Police were on the scene quickly only to find the noises were from the neighbor's home as they were setting up and dragging tarps with merchandise for the next morning's yard sale.

Since that little mishap, they have been actively selling each year.

"Our friends have baggage," they joked. Who doesn't from time to time, and why not unload it with friends and neighbors?

"It's [The Great Media Garage Sale Days] a happening," said Tina Mason.
