Media Borough Updates on Hotel, Condo's, School, Post Office

Media Borough Council offered some updates on ongoing projects in the borough at its August council meeting.

President Brian Hall offered a few updates on ongoing development projects at Thursday's council meeting.

Hampton Inn

Media Borough Council , a six year process, in August 2011. However, little movement as been seen at the site.

Hall said the best estimate for Hampton Inn construction to begin, is the end of the year.

"I can't make an exact prediction but it's looking like the end of this year," Hall said.

Condominium Project

In September 2011, building at East Jefferson and South Edgmont streets.

Hall said ground should break on the condominiums at the end of August or beginning of September.

"In that area, expect that there are going to be some changes in the traffic patterns and there's going to be construction equipment there," Hall said.

Media Elementary School

The after the announced the 100-year-old school is in need of roof repairs. The students and faculty will relocate to the former for the 2012-2013 school year.

Construction has not yet begun on the roof repairs but the project has gone out to bid or is going out to bid shortly, Hall said.

By the fall, construction will likely begin at the school, he said.

Media Post Office

Mayor Bob McMahon also offered an update as to the status of the on Balitmore Avenue.

There are no plans to close the post office, he said, after talking with the district representative.

"In fact, we are one of their top post offices in terms of traffic," McMahon said.

However, the post office had received several complaints about deliveries and long lines at the post office, he said, due to the streamlining of service because of budget cuts, at the same time as vacation season.

He said they are working to rectify the problem and are aware that improvements need to be made.

"I think it's going to be a little bit better than it has been," McMahon said.
