Video: County, Media Borough Memorialize 9/11

Both Delaware County and Media Borough paid tribute to Sept. 11 on Sunday.

Delaware County residents, fire, police, emergency medical service members and military members came together with county and local elected officials to honor and remember Sept. 11 at  on Sunday.

The of Media Borough also paid tribute on Sunday with a crowd of about 65 people. In a program called "Lest We Forget," members of several congregations, including sang and read poems and readings dedicated to the heros and victims of Sept. 11 and to those who serve our community and country. 

Media Borough police and fire personnel were in attendence with Rose Tree Fire Co. officials, Media Borough Council representatives and Congressman Patrick Meehan (R-Dist. 7).

Both church choirs, children's choir and soloists sang the emotions of 9/11 as the crowd viewed images on a screen reminding us never to forget. Members of the program also lit candles to memorialize the moment and in front of those candles was a piece of steel from the Twin Towers. 

In Rose Tree Park, about 250 people attended the county ceremony hosted by Delaware County District Attorney Michael Green that honored not only 9/11 victims but also county first responders and military members who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Delaware County Sheriff Joseph McGinn read the names of Army Lieutenant Colonel Mark Phelan, Marine Corps Sergeant James Fordyce, Army Specialist Michael J. Smith, Army Staff Sergeant Joseph M. Kane and Army Private First Class Christopher W. Lotter—all servicemen from Delaware County who died for their country since Sept. 11, 2001.
