What's Closed on Columbus Day?

A look at business and government buildings that will be closed on Monday for Columbus Day.

The first Columbus Day was observed in 1937, but it has roots in this country going back to the colonial period. 

Because Columbus Day is a federal holiday, most government offices will be closed.


The following businesses will be closed on Monday, Oct. 8 unless otherwise stated.

  • Edgmont Township Building: Open
  • Media Borough Building: Closed
  • Middletown Township Building: Closed
  • Upper Providence Township Builidng: Closed


  • Department of Motor Vehicles: Closed


  • Media and Edgmont Post Office: Closed
  • UPS Store: Open


  • Wells Fargo: Closed
  • PNC Bank: Closed
  • First Keystone Bank: Closed


  • Media Upper Providence Free Library: Open
  • Middletown Free Library: Closed
