Yard Waste Collection for Middletown Twonship

Middletown Township has announced additional yard waste collection to assist with Hurricane Sandy clean up.

Middletown Township has announced a special yard waste collection to help residents properly dispose of sticks and branches that came down during Hurricane Sandy.

All residents residing in Recycling Area 1 (south of the SEPTA rail line) will be collected on Tuesday, Nov. 6. All residents residing in Recycling Area 2 (north of the SEPTA rail line) will be collected on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Yard waste must be placed at the curb the evening before collection or before 6 a.m. on the day of collection. If it is not out to the curb by the time the truck arrives to collect, the truck will not be sent back to collect later.

The next regularly scheduled yard waste collection is Wednesday, Nov. 21.

Yard waste refers to twigs, sticks, branches, and tree and shrubbery trimmings only. Leaves must be kept separate, as leaves and yard waste are processed for composting separately.

For this collection, yard waste must be placed in trash cans or bundled with string and set out at the curb. Branches are to be no larger than 4 inches in diameter and no longer than 4 feet in length. For branches that meet the size requirements but are too unwieldy to bundle together, a maximum of 10 single branches may be put out to the curb per collection.

The 2012 curbside collection of bagged leaves will continue weekly through Dec. 7.

Leaves will be picked up only in biodegradable paper bags. No loose leaves will be collected. Residents wishing to use this township service may do so by purchasing the biodegradable leaf bags either at the Township Building, 27 North Pennell Road, at Linvilla Orchards, 137 West Knowlton Road, or Wolff’s Apple House, 81 South Pennell Road.

They may be purchased for $2.50 for a bundle of five bags from any of the three locations listed above. Filled bags should be placed curbside as early in the week as possible to ensure a timely collection. There is no need to call the township to request a collection.

The burning of leaves and yard waste is prohibited in the township at all times.
