Archmere Academy Winter Musical: "Anything Goes"

Archmere Academy Dramatics presents Cole Porter’s ocean-liner love story Anything Goes, opening Thursday, February 27, with two additional performances Friday, February 28, and Saturday, March 1, in the Performing Arts Center. All performances begin at 7 p.m.

Originally published as a book written and revised collaboratively by Guy Bolton, P.G. Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, Anything Goes first appeared on Broadway in 1934 and has been revived multiple times since, most recently in 2011. The frenetic musical is set aboard a transatlantic luxury liner en route to London from New York. With help from friend and nightclub singer Reno Sweeney along with Moonface Martin (a.k.a. Public Enemy #13), stowaway Billy Crocker attempts to steal the love of American debutante Hope Harcourt from her uptight fiancé Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. The show features renowned musical numbers including “You’re the Top,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “It’s De-Lovely,” and title song, “Anything Goes.”

Over fifty students are involved in this year’s winter musical, working on the stage and behind the scenes. English teacher Tim Dougherty directs, while Music Department chair David Ifkovits, music teacher Damian Demnicki ‘86, and Dorothy Brown lead the music, set design/construction, and choreography, respectively. Junior Claire Caverly ‘15 heads costumes.
