Bastille Day 2013

BIGGEST EIFFEL TOWER IN PENNSYLVANIA
SCULPTED FOR MEDIA’S BASTILLE DAY!

Can’t get to Paris this summer? “Picture” yourself at the Eiffel Tower during Media’s Bastille Day where a 25’ Eiffel Tower Sculpture will be on display. Take pictures! Your friends will be completely fooled. Event is hosted by Media Arts Council (M.A.C.) & The Media Business Authority.

The seventh annual Bastille Day Celebration of the French Revolution is held on State Street in downtown Media on Saturday, July 13. The Eiffel Tower will be at the Media Arts Council’s Village Des Artistes at State Street and Veteran’s Square. This sculpture is the tallest Eiffel Tower in Pennsylvania. M.A.C. artists will be displaying selling their work at the Village Des Artistes. In addition there will be street musicians playing in the Village. Hedgerow Theatre actors will perform a re-enactment of the storming of the Bastille!

Admission is FREE!!

Bastille Day has something for everyone: a theatre reenactment of the “Storming of the Bastille” by the Hedgerow Theatre, music by “The VooDUDES” to dance in the street by, activities for the whole family and you can enjoy Dining Under the Stars.

VooDUDES music is a combination of New Orleans funk, blues, boogie-woogie and honky-tonk, Zydeco, Southern soul and Caribbean party music.

Woodworker Bok Read, a renowned furniture maker, of Media, PA is creating Eiffel Tower Sculpture out of cedar instead of steel. He was approached by the Media Arts Council to make the Eiffel Tower and is excited to be the chief artist/engineer for it. There has been a sharp learning curve as Bok researched Gustave Eiffel’s iconic work.

Loic Barnieu, owner of La Belle Époque Restaurants and force behind Bastille Day, is excited to have this symbol of France become part of Media’s celebration. The Eiffel Tower in Paris was erected to celebrate the Centennial the French Revolution.

 Bastille Day starts 6PM
 Hedgerow Theatre will perform a “Storming of the Bastille” re-enactment at State and Olive at 6:30PM
 The VooDudes will perform live at State and Olive 8:30PM
 Dancing and Bastille Day end 10:30PM
