Vanities

Jack Heifner’s poignant comedy-drama was a huge hit when it first opened in 1976, becoming the longest-running non-musical show in Off-Broadway history with 1,785 performances. It follows three young women who are best friends through critical stages in their lives. We first meet them when they’re high-school cheerleaders in 1963, then as sorority sisters in college in 1968, and again in 1974 as they reunite to compare the different paths they’ve taken. It’s a rich, character-driven play that examines friendship and how the turbulent times of the ’60s and ’70s changed women’s role in society.

"Unnervingly funny...Fast moving, sneakily stinging dialogue." - Newsweek
