Hackett Announces 2012 Property Tax/Rent Rebate Application Deadline Extended

Rep. Joe Hackett (R-Delaware) announced that the filing deadline for the 2012 Lottery-funded Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has been extended to December 31.

“In these tough economic times, a rebate can make a huge difference in the budget of a senior citizen on a fixed income,” Hackett said. “My local staff and I stand ready to help you determine whether you are eligible for a rebate and work with you to obtain and file your application.”

The rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters. Half of Social Security income is excluded from the income calculation.

As of May 31, the Revenue Department had received 506,518 rebate applications.

About 600,000 households are expected to benefit from the program.

Hackett said the maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for qualifying homeowners can boost rebates to $975.

As specified by law, rebate distribution began July 1. After June 30, rebates will be distributed as claims are received and processed.
