Santa's Arrival, Festival of Lights Mark Start of Media's Christmas Season

The Christmas holiday season will kick off Thanksgiving weekend.

Santa Claus is coming to town on Black Friday and Rose Tree Park's Festival of Lights begin on Saturday.

Santa's Arrival and the Festival of Lights will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, in front of the Delaware County Courthouse on Front Street and Veteran's Square.

Santa's sleigh will be in the shop getting ready for Christmas Eve, so he will borrow a fire truck that will head down State Street and arrive in front of the Courthouse to meet all of the good boys and girls.

Santa's helpers, the Phillie Phanatic and a few Star Wars characters, will help him turn on the 200,000 Christmas lightbulbs on State Street, signaling the beginning of the Christmas season.

Makin' Music will provide live entertainment and the scene is expected to be much improved after last year's location change to the Courthouse.

Donations will also be accepted for the Media Food Bank and Toys for Tots.

Festival of Lights at Rose Tree Park

Delaware County's annual tree lighting ceremony at Rose Tree Park, which began more than 30 years ago, will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Santa Claus will once again take a break from getting ready for his big night and arrive at Rose Tree Park to help light the way to Christmas.

The Springton Lake Middle School Chorus will perform and the more than 75 trees and displays will be illuminated.

The Festival of Lights will be open every evening from 5:30 to 9 p.m. through Jan. 4. Admission is free.

Rose Tree Park is located at 1671 N. Providence Rd, Upper Providence, Pa, 19063.
