Color Me Sold

Color has a distinct ability to affect the mood of potential buyers. Using color wisely will get your home on the fast track to sold.

When your home is on the market you want it to appeal to as many potential buyers as possible. The colors you choose can have a big impact on the perception of your home and the time it will take to get it sold.

When most of us think of the color in our homes, we think of the wall color. But color can be found in many places in your home including flooring, tiles, hardware, and staging.

Interior Walls and Ceilings: Buyers want fresh, clean palettes that fit with the style of a home. Neutrality is key, but that's not the end of it. Neutral can mean anything from grey to yellow to brown or blue. Think of which will work best in your home.

Architectural Style: Traditional homes would bode well to have walls in warm, rich tones. Cottages or beach side homes can take advantage of earthy browns paired alongside crisp blues or greens.

Tiles: Continue your theme throughout your home. If you have a beach theme in your living room, don't opt for updating your kitchen or bathroom with heavy, dark tile. It's a clash that buyers will notice. Instead, choose a neutral cream or white. Same goes the other way around. If the rest of your home is very modern with dark tones, don't opt for a completely different elsewhere by using pastels.

Flooring: Hardwood flooring comes in many colors from the super light to the deepest of darks. If you're planning on reselling, a middle ground floor color is less likely to turn-off buyers.

Stage With Color in Mind: With your neutral wall as a backdrop, accent the room with one or two colors of your choice. Incorporate those colors in varying patterns. Stripes and floral prints can be beautiful and inviting when done in the same color scheme.

The key with color and selling is to make your home appealing to a wide range of buyers. But remember, painting everything white and adding no color will leave buyers with a cold and uninviting feeling. Sticking with neutral colors that fit within a design scheme is a sure-fire way to impress.
